About the Organization

The Maypole Fund is a small, unincorporated grant-giving association. The women who run The Maypole Fund are volunteers firmly committed to feminist activism against militarism and war in its many and diverse forms.

About the Grant

We fund imaginative, non-violent projects and activities which proactively challenge militarism in locally relevant and appropriate ways. Applicants can be individual women or women-only groups.

This means we welcome applications from women for projects and activities for any of the following:

  • Feminist anti-militarism
  • Feminist anti-war activism
  • Action against the arms trade
  • Action against nuclear weapons and weapons systems
  • Action to support disarmament policies and processes

We do not fund:

  • On-going running costs by groups, including recurring salaries or office rental Undergraduate or graduate studies
  • Economic development or poverty reduction, such as investment in machinery or materials, or investment in private businesses 
  • Participation in conferences, study visits, etc by women from the Global North.

Eligibility

To receive a grant, you must agree to the following conditions:

  • You or your group/organisation must commit to using the grant exclusively for the project/activity applied for.
  • You or your group’s/organisation’s activity has not started before the grant decision.
  • To demonstrate the outcome of your project/activity, you must provide a report back within 6 months of the end of a project. Please say what you have done and how you have spent the grant.
  • Acknowledge funding received from The Maypole Fund where possible, such as project publications, your website, or similar.

How to Apply

Your application must be for a project which falls within our aims. As we receive more applications than we have money to fund, we are especially looking for imaginative, nonviolent and politically expressive projects. Of the applications we receive for each funding session, we support on average 5-10% of applications.

The Maypole Fund has two funding sessions each year. The submission deadlines for each of these sessions are at the end of January and June of each year.

If you have submitted an application between 1 July and by 31 January each year, it will be assessed in February. If you have not heard from us by the end of February, you can assume that your application was not successful.

If you have submitted an application between 1 February and 30 June each year, it  will be assessed in July. If you have not heard from us by the end of July, you can assume that your application was not successful.
